American Indians' Reverence for Devils Tower
Devils Tower was the first National Monument in the US (1906) but has even more significance to American Indians.
⠀
Colored bundles of cloth are left by American Indians as prayer offerings at the base of the tower. Also, there is a movement to revert the name back to "Bear Lodge" as it is more an acceptable name and reflects the American Indian tribes reverence for and connect with the site.
⠀

▪️from the base, it is more than 4 football fields tall (867 feet)
▪️it's not hollow
