Visiting the Salt Lakes in Siwa
Everything you need to know about the salt lakes in Siwa! 👇
.
It IS a salt excavation site (don’t let this stop you from visiting!) but just so you know, you will see trucks & people working, piles of salt etc. and you’ll also quickly learn that the look of this place is constantly changing since as locals say “the trucks work everyday”
.
That being said, some of the small lakes/ pools that you see on social media/ online will likely not be there when you visit, but there will be new ones to see and explore. I recommend going with a local guide who can show you around :)
.
The Siwan lakes are extremely safe to swim in, the salt content is so high that you automatically float 🦦. I’ve heard that the water can be painful if you have any open cuts/ wounds and would be careful not to shave the day of/ before visiting just in case.
.
After swimming in a salt lake, people often head to one of the natural hot springs in Siwa to wash off the salt. So be sure to ask your driver to take you there!
