Chichén Itzá: Mayan Astronomical Wonder

What to know about Chichén Itzá 🌞 📌 Save this for your Mexico bucket list 🇲🇽 ▪️Meaning of Chichén Itzá ‘At the brim of the well where the Wise Men of the Water Live.’ ▪️El Castillo (pictured here) is the most astonishing Mayan Ruin / building inside the Archaeological Site The pyramid is called a step pyramid. Fun fact: the stairways of El Castillo consist of 91 steps on each side, and when added together with the temple platform as the final step, there are a total of 365 steps, the number of days in the Mayan Haab’ year. ▪️El Castillo is also a Natural Astrological Phenomenon ✨ At Chichén Itzá, you can witness a natural astrological phenomenon that Mayan architects purposefully designed when they built El Castillo sometime between 900 and 1,200 years ago which is The ‘Descent of Kukulcán,’ also known as the feathered serpent! The serpent descends the steps of El Castillo during the spring and fall equinoxes. ▪️Getting there If you want to visit on your own, you can rent a car and easily drive to Chichén Itzá. I recommend arriving late in the afternoon (around 3 pm) and exploring until the site closes (at 5 pm) to enjoy a quiet afternoon after most of the crowds have left! Then sleep in the colorful town of Valladolid so you can explore nearby cenotes the next morning. ☺️ Is Chichén Itzá on your bucket list? . . . . . . .
