"Aloha” means love, affection, peace, compassion and mercy, that is commonly used as a simple greeting but has a deeper cultural and spiritual significance to native Hawaiians, for whom the term is used to define a force that holds together existence.
We believe Aloha can be perpetuated by all of humanity. The way we share it is through action - we have to show the world what that looks and feels like - and I believe a little bit of the Aloha Spirit was passed on at this event.
We were invited to celebrate @alaskaair 15 years of travel to Hawaii. ✈️✨
At the start of the night, we were blessed in Hawaiian tradition with chants of protection by Kalani Pe’a and Keoni prior to boarding a vessel, symbolizing the voyage ancient Hawaiians made during their journey to foreign islands. We got lei’d, ate musubis, embraced the art of lei making with @noveltylei, enjoyed the graceful hula dancing by @mahealaniuchiyama and her hālau, listening to Hawaiian music by @kalanipeamusic and musician @leee017, and storytelling by @hi2co2hi.
It’s not an easy thing to do; A “Hawaii event” that isn’t generic or a typical mainland luau. However, Alaska Airlines was able to bring all of these talented artists/creators together and immerse Hawaiian culture in the land of San Francisco.
Alaska Airlines is a company that continues to surprise us with what they do and have done for Hawaii. To all our visitors: welcome to the islands, our home. Please malama (take care) the land and be mindful of your actions. Be kind. Share the Aloha.
