A must do during a visit in Venice, Italy — Murano, Burano, and Torcello tour!
🚤 To visit the three islands in the Venetian lagoon, you’ll have to ride a motorboat. If you’re short on time and want to experience it all, you’re able to do the 4.5 hour tour.
🏠 Burano: an island famous for its beautiful bright colored fishermen houses and known for its lace production, which dates back to the 16th century.
🏺 Murano: visit a glass factory, where you watch a glassblower creating beautiful pieces of glassware, a Murano tradition that dates back to 1291. Hear a bit about the island’s history from your guide, who tells you about Murano’s prosperity in the 1400s and 1500s, when it was the center of glassmaking in Europe. Then go admire other sights like churches decorated with mosaics and other ornamental details.
⛪️ Torcello: an island established between the 5th and 6th centuries, to see its ornate palaces and churches. Highlights include the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in the 7th century, and the excavated remnants of the baptistery in the Church of Santa Fosca.
✨TIPS✨
• If you’re on a budget, ask your hotel to schedule a free tour to Murano with a free boat ride. To visit burano and Torcello, ride the public water taxi for a low fare.
• Organized tours don't give you much time on the islands, so we'd recommend traveling independently unless you're in a hurry or have limited mobility.
• Instead of buying individual tickets for the boat trips between the islands, buy a one to seven day Tourist Travel Card at any Hellovenezia or ACTV ticket booth. You can check boat schedules at the official ACTV Web site.
