The Direct Flash/Film Look Trend
Do you love or hate the direct flash/film look trend that’s been going around recently?
In the 24 years or so that I have been doing photography I have seen so many trends come and go. Selective coloring, cross processing, a sepia craze and so much more. The film concept was a fun trend, it’s still a fun trend because it brought back the reason why I fell in love with Photography in the first place, the dark room. But seeing this direct flash look come back all over the place is sort of irking me a little bit because I used to shoot like this when I had no idea how to use flash.
In a way though, I think it’s a little bit fun seeing what were previously known as photography mistakes become photography trends and of course knowing how to replicate them because hey, I know how to take “bad” pictures too.
You’ll get to see a behind the scenes of this photo shoot soon on my YouTube channel in my budget Photography gear wars series. To top off this photography trend I used old gear that I would’ve used to create a photo like this back in the day, a Canon rebel with its pop-up direct flash. and dare I say, I actually enjoyed the results.
What are your thoughts on it all?
