Managing Wedding Photography Expectations
Something that has been frustrating me lately is the amount of beautiful wedding photography out there. Now it’s not the photography that’s frustrating me, it’s the unrealistic expectations starting to confuse people. We live in a sea of endless styled, shoots and showing the best of the best wedding photos and it’s only natural that eventually people, photographers and couples included, can believe that every one of these photos can show up in a single wedding day. Let me be the first to tell you, they can’t.

Even with a team of four photographers, plenty of time planned out in the wedding day timeline, it’s impossible to re-create the entire Internet’s portfolio of best wedding photographers into one wedding day. And you know what? It shouldn’t even be a goal, but subconsciously I know it is for me and for my couples. After all why wouldn’t we want to get EVERYTHING?!

My friend @johndefioraphotography once put it this way. Do you wanna stuff yourself silly to the point of being sick with just ok pizza… or do you want to be handed the best gourmet pizza you’ve ever had in your life and eat just enough to make you full?

Wedding photography should be like a gourmet pizza, not like over-shot, mostly worthless photos that we take on our phones until we’re overstuffed with them. Aim to capture the moments in the best way possible and enjoy and savor each one like you would a Michelin star meal.

That all being said, I absolutely arrive to every single wedding at least a half an hour early specifically to have time to do the lay flat. 😂
