Hide Like Counts to Focus on Your Craft

The secret to this crazy Instagram success is easier than you think, and you can do it right now no matter how many followers you have. Ready?? Hide like count. BUT… This isn’t for others. It’s for YOU. You see, I teach a lot about social media and even though my likes weren’t what I wanted them to be, I didn’t want to hide them because I thought that wouldn’t it be open and honest and relatable. But what I found was happening is that I was posting based on what I thought we get the most engagement and the most likes. No don’t get me wrong this has not gone out the window entirely, and it’s why I post a lot of reels and some of my “photos” are actually reels. However, i’ve decided I’d like to count on most of the photo posts not because you would think less of me in the engagement, but I was thinking less of me. And that resulted in that only a lower self-esteem about what I was doing, but about my work. And photography is art. And art should not be dictated by like count. Because I was posting things that would get higher engagement, I wasn’t posting what I knew I wanted to show all of you that follow me and my potential clients. I didn’t like the way my feed looked and if you go to my profile you can scroll down and tell a definite difference. I wasn’t showing off all the high-end work or details or emotionally driven images that I love photographing. Because despite how extravagant details of layflats or wedding receptions look, or a tear-jerking black and white, they never get good engagement. At least not as good as some dramatically lit shot. And as a result of that I felt like my feet was not a good representation of the type of clients I have, and therefore I wasn’t attracting the type of clients I want. But worst of all, I wasn’t happy with my own photography. Ironically I was taking photos that I was happy with, but I wasn’t posting them. Crazy right? Hiding your like count might be the best thing that you do for yourself, your business, and your craft. Here’s to all of us and putting our craft and piece of mind first. ❤️
