A young woman with long dark hair is standing on a city street, holding an old-fashioned twin lens reflex camera up to her face as if taking a photograph. She is wearing a sleeveless black dress and has a small bag hanging from her shoulder. Behind her is a utility pole covered in posters and graffiti advertising various events and shows. There are trees lining the street, with buildings and parked cars visible in the background. The scene has an urban, artistic vibe.

Dream Fulfilled: First Shoot with a Twin Lens Reflex Camera

This picture is everything to me. I learned photography in high school. But because I was homeschooled through my Freshman year, I was only able to take three years of photo classes. Using a twin lens reflex camera and learning medium format film was a project that only 4th year students did, something that I would never get to be. I wanted to shoot and process black and white with the TLR so badly and never had the chance. Last month that dream came true and I finally shot on a TRL. And even better yet, I discovered a per hour darkroom I can visit and process the film too!! Side note, I actually own full darkroom equipment but never have the time to set it up. Here’s to dreams that come true, even 18 years later. 😊 • • •
