Travel in the Philippines on a Budget
•
How much does a trip like this cost? A lot of people ask me this assuming I spend thousands on each trip. Ive just calculated ALL my expenses for the Philippines section of this trip - I’ve been obsessively noting EVERYTHING I’ve spent in notes on my phone, as I’m sure I don’t spend that much and wanted to prove it to myself... The total, including my return flights to Manila from London, internal flights to Palawan, then to Cebu... ALL my food (and we ate well there!), all the alcohol, all our accommodation, ALL our land transfers, all our trips, (kayak hire, private boat tours, whale watching, taxis to waterfalls etc) - I even counted tips, suncream, ATM fees... Works out just less than £1000 for the three weeks... The upcoming weeks will be much less too (as I’ve included the main international flights in that above figure, and we’re now being more money conscious!)

At home my rent would be £600 for the month, maybe £200 on bills, I can easily spend £100 each week on eating out and going out for drinks with friends (£400/month), I spend lots on petrol, food shops, gym, cinema, climbing... It’s actually cheaper for me to “exist” here than it is to be at home 👀 I know a lot of people have responsibilities, mortgages, families, career commitments - but for me, and I’m sure lots more people, this makes sense 👀👌🏻
