Luca James made his dramatic entrance into the world this week ❤️ TW: birth trauma. I’ve been away from social media / emails / work for nearly two weeks as I’ve been really sick. It unfortunately meant we had to deliver the baby early, but we waited as long as possible to give him the best chance of doing well. Pre eclampsia is a complicated condition that can affect people in pregnancy. It can be mild, moderate or severe. Only severe cases where there is significant threat to the mums life warrant delivery of the baby so early. Ideally we would have waited until he was 37 weeks before delivering but I was getting more sick by the day. Any threat to my life was a threat to his. During the C section I ended up having a massive haemorrhage (as if I hadn’t been unlucky enough to this point 🫣) I was laid with no control listening to the surgeon as she says “we having massive bleeding, I can’t control it, call for help” - I then hear there’s already 2L blood been sucked out of my abdomen - but then hear my baby cry as he is pulled out (something which meant his lungs were looking good and he was doing well). I can’t explain it but at that moment I felt at peace with what was happening. At least the baby is out and safe. I’m sure i will be back in therapy chatting about it for some time… Both João and I genuinely believed I was going to die. I hear the “massive obstetric haemorrhage” alarm ring and suddenly there’s tons of people in the room, João is led away from me and my memory gets foggy from there. Traumatic births happen a lot, and most people go on not really talking about it or feeling justified in their trauma.
