Here’s what we would change ⬇️ If you are a family with young kids you will likely be aware of the new rules surrounding school absence. Traveling during the school holidays is notoriously expensive, with the additional threat of fines, travel is becoming less accessible for many families. ❓But why is it so expensive to travel in the school holidays? When demand exceeds supply, prices naturally soar. ❓What portion of school absences are due to family holidays? The gov website says 89% of unauthorised absences are issued due to term time holidays. These new rules mean many families will no longer be able to afford the benefits that travel brings. It hits families on the lowest incomes the hardest. We feel there has to be a better and fairer way. - if school holidays were spaced out more across regions, this would lower demand at specific times. - if children were allowed a set amount of time to use as holiday time, just like annual leave, parents would have much more flexibility. Fines could then be issued outside of this. These are just a couple of the solutions we thought of whilst discussing this, but we’d love to hear from you. How has this affected you?
