Covid Tests for Travel: Explained
The most common question I’ve been getting over on my TikTok is “Could you explain what covid tests I will need to do to go on holiday?!” - The government aren’t making it easy to understand, hopefully this video will explain the basics.
Q&A from my TikTok post:
Q: How can I arrange a “Pre departure test” if I’m on holiday?
A: “Qured” who I featured in this video will give you a lateral flow test to take with you, then you perform the test during a scheduled video call. They then send you confirmation of the result.
Q: Can I use a NHS lateral flow test?
A: No. This wouldn’t allow you to provide any confirmation. All tests need to be from government approved companies.
Q: Where can I buy tests?
A: There are lots of options so shop around. Lots of airlines are offering discount codes, and TUI have some great package deals. Q: Do I need to have had both vaccinations??
A: If the country you are flying to accepts vaccination instead of PCR testing, then yes. Lack of vaccination won’t stop you travelling, it just means splashing out on an extra test.
Q: What if I get a positive test while on holiday?
A: You will need to follow that countries government advice for covid positive people. This will likely mean missing your flight home and extra accommodation costs so good covid travel insurance is essential.
