Whitney's Journey to Faith and Community
I grew up in a family where my grandma was really the only one who went to church. She always brought me and I loved it. I loved hearing about the Lord and being around others who believed the same as me. My mom and my dad split up when I was 3 and so I rarely saw my dad. I have two brothers and a sister who I have encouraged to come to church and youth groups with me. Growing up, things would happen to me and my family that would kind of shake me up in a way. All these huge moments in my life had caused me to ask God why he would do this to me and my family. I often found myself saying “Lord, I know you’re out there and I know you’re watching what’s going on because I know you’re in control but why? Why would you bring this hurt into our lives.” Over the years I went on some missions experiences that changed me for the better and I experienced a life altering moment that happened at Passion 2020 in Atlanta, GA where I felt God was speaking past the thousands of other people there and directly to me. I moved to Idaho in June 2019.
One day my cousin who I hadn’t talked to in a while called me and asked me to go to church with him. He brought me to a Sunday service at Rockharbor and introduced me to the leaders of The Porch. I have only been going to the Porch and small groups for a few weeks now but the people I have met and the connections I’ve made have changed me already. I am so excited to build more relationships and learn more about the Lord and what he’s doing in my life. I appreciate everyone in the Porch who has been there for me so far and helped me move forward. -Whitney Beck
