Emotional Bride Moment with Bridesmaids
It's all about the story. Like the tears Meredith couldn't hold back after her gown and makeup went on.⠀
.⠀
Sure, I love applying fancy light and high-fashion techniques to our unique style of wedding photography. But when training as a photojournalist years ago, I was fully converted to this important concept: "Story is King."⠀
.⠀
Our couples are precious to us, their emotions are real, and their moments are irreplaceable. Never miss the opportunity to capture those moments because you were distracted by technique or your gear!⠀
.⠀
How can you do both TECHNIQUE and STORY well? It's a challenge even I still tackle every day, but here are some tips:⠀
1) Practice, practice (in your "off" time)! Know your gear like the back of your hand. It should be an extension of yourself, not something you're fighting to figure out on the job.⠀
2) Study human behavior. People often repeat actions, the same way we tell the same stories over and over -- yet they don't get old. If you think you missed a shot, think again. Hustle to compose, then wait for history to repeat itself! You'll be surprised how often you luck out..⠀
