Turn $15 Coffee Table into $175 Profit
We bought this coffee table for $15 and sold it for $175 and guess what? We didn't do anything to it besides clean it up! How did we do it? We found a great deal, STAGED it, and took great pictures!⠀
⠀
So let's talk about staging- Staging gives potential buyers the vision for possible ways they could use your product. It showcases ways the product could look in their home.⠀
⠀
Photography and Staging Tips-⠀
1. LIGHTING- Find a space in your home or garage where natural light fills the space but doesn't shine directly on your wall.⠀
2. BACKGROUND- Wherever that space is, create a simple background to showcase your furniture (that may just be a plain wall). But if you typically sell white furniture, don't have a white wall. You need contrast so your furniture piece doesn't blend in with its surroundings. We typically sell dark or wood furniture, so our white faux brick background works perfectly with the majority of our pieces.⠀
3. STAGING- Think about how your piece of furniture would be used in someone's home. Would it have an accent chair next to it? Would books be sitting on it? Would art be near it? What about a lamp? Use props that compliment the color and style of the furniture piece. We typically use things we already have in our house. However, our home has lots of whites, grays, and blues and most of what we sell is wood, gold, and earth toned. So I have collected a few pieces from thrift stores every time I go. And now I can reuse those "props" over and over again.⠀
4. PICTURES- Take lots of pictures! Show different angles. Different ways your furniture might be used (ie. wine bar, coffee bar, book case, armoire for clothes, etc.). Be honest, show the flaws. Show details that you've added.⠀
5. EDITING- Finally, brighten your images to make the images pop to show off their true colors. Don't go overboard here. Just enough of a pop so they can see what it will actually look like in person. There are tons of great editing apps for your phone. I use Snapseed but they are all pretty comparable for how you'll be using it.⠀
6- LIST- List your furniture and make some $$$!
