I have lots of aspirations for 2024, but this one is a new one for me- 1000 hours outside. Sounds easy until you do the math, that’s 2.7 hours each day and I have to take in consideration that summer in the desert will make those hours almost impossible. So why am I going to go through the trouble of being intentional about spending time outdoors?
-Exposure to sunlight helps improve sleep
-Improves mood
-Decreases stress
-More energy
-Boosts immune system
-Less screens = fuller life
Ideas for spending more time outdoors:
-Move workouts, stretching, and yoga outdoors
-Spend lunch breaks outside
-Lots and lots of walks, bike rides, and try a new hike location every weekend
-Watch sunsets
-Have picnics
-Start a nature journal
-Start an outdoor garden
-Explore local parks with your family
-Create a cozy spot to read outdoors
-Add a hammock (our family logged a ton of hours in our hammock this year)
-Take naps outside
-Plan a vacation that is focused on the outdoors: camping, a national park, a tropical location

P.S. This magical rainforest is one of my favorite places on Maui. It’s at Honolua Bay.
