Visit Fort Pulaski on Your Savannah Road Trip

Best way to learn? Make history come to life! 🫡🇺🇸🚙 Just east of Savannah, Georgia there’s an American history road trip stop you should make. It’s on the way to Tybee Island, and ya’ll are driving right past it. 🇺🇸Fort Pulaski⭐️ Although Ft Pulaski had only a short 30-hour battle during the Civil War - which it lost to the North - it’s an amazing structure with an interesting history. This was when the soldiers realized that these masonry forts were no match for the new artillery with the rifling cannons. (Aka the pointed cannon ball spun through the air and quickly took out the wall of the fort from even two miles away.) The Confederate soldiers at the fort even knew their enemy was nearby, but they thought it was impossible to get hit. Why? Check it out. 👇👇 Robert E. Lee (Yes, that one) helped design the fort decades earlier, and he had just told them it was impossible. Lee was wrong. 👀Wander the tunnels built into the grass 🐟Watch the fish jump in the moat 🌴Walk along the wall and look out to Tybee and the surrounding marsh 🤔Admire the amazing construction - I do so love me some arches! 👂🏻Listen to a ranger talk And although we didn’t have time on this Savannah trip, there are nature trails for wandering and lots more marsh land to explore. Add this to your southern US road trip. And let’s make learning fun. History trips aren’t just for homeschoolers like us. PS: If your kid is in the 4th grade, get the US National park pass for the year! If not, it’s worth the $10 car entrance fee.. . . . . . .
