Up-Close with Hippos at the St. Louis Zoo
The St. Louis Zoo is free?! Yup! The enclosures are so big for the animals, there are great statues to enjoy, and they have some animals we haven’t seen before - which is saying a lot for these zoo kids!

The hippos were a top favorite - for us and everyone else at the zoo. So crowded. Penguins are always a hit especially when it’s hot outside. Hyenas were a first and looked very mean grooming each other. Polar bear was also a first, and they were impressed with his size compared to the grizzly bear and sun bear we had just seen.

The zoo is just one small part of Forest Park which also has free museums and tons of green space. We just didn’t have time to see it all. We didn’t even get to see all of the zoo. It’s beautifully done with so much water and pretty. Definitely an all day adventure.

However… you do pay for parking. And when you get there at 8, just know the animals don’t come out until 9 or later. It was so frustrating. I kept thinking to myself a la Ian Malcolm (Jurassic Park) “Now, eventually, you might have dinosaurs on your dinosaur tour? Right?” 😂 It was frustrating.

Have I mentioned that next time we St. Louis it will be during the school year when all the crowds are gone?!
