Terezin Concentration Camp Visit in Czech Republic

One of the most impactful places on our Europe trip. (My kid seriously just had a convo with an adult who said the Holocaust was fake… 🤦) 👏History coming to life in the Czech Republic. Let’s educate ourselves. To the truth. Terezin in the Czechia is a Europe must-see. Not because of beauty. Because of significance. On World War 2 maps, you’ll see it labeled as the “Theresienstadt Ghetto”. This homeschool mom took a train from Prague to visit Terezin with the kids. We walked to the fortress-concentration camp right outside the town and then walked to the actual walled town of Terezin. The history remains. (Many such sites don’t allow young kids.) 👉Here’s what you should know. In WW1, this fortress became a prison. It housed Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s assassin. In WW2, it became a concentration camp. And the nearby walled town became a walled ghetto for the Jewish elite. Although not an extermination camp itself, 33,000 died from malnourishment and camp conditions. This was often just a stop on the way to Auschwitz. And the railroad’s final destination was the crematorium. ‼️The town housed artists and musicians and scientists with their children. They were told it was a safe haven. Later, the town walked town was even beautified for a propaganda video where laughing kids played games while the chorus sang songs. All to prove to the Red Cross board that conditions weren’t as bad as had been reported. (Watch the video of this online.) Make your trips meaningful. Impactful. Hopefully, seeing this real life history lesson made more of an impact than all the books and museums ever could. 👉Ask me questions. Do some learning. 👉And share it with a friend who needs to know.
