Reclaiming Wonders
A young blonde woman, wearing a red t-shirt with the logo of 'The Arts Aviator', sits hunched over a cluttered desk or table. Her head rests on her hand, and she appears to be studying or working on homework assignments. Scattered in front of her are numerous books, folders, and papers, along with some highlighters. The scene depicts the stress and effort often involved in academic pursuits, particularly in a homeschooling or self-study environment.

Realistic Approach to Homeschooling

Hint: Homeschool doesn’t have to be all or nothing. What?! The perfectionist trap! We feel like failures if we don’t do something everyday. Or it’s easier to stop all together than kinda do something. Or don’t even try if it won’t be perfect. I felt this way about hymn study. . . “Everyone else manages to do it everyday so I just be doing something wrong!” Sound familiar? Social media tells me everyone else can do it better, so it must be true... . . So now we do Worship Wednesday in our morning time. Once a week is better than nothing and the kids love it. Everyday —- most days—- have prayer and Bible reading, but hymns have a special place on Wednesday. Alliteration is the best and it helps the kids remind me if I forget. . . Wednesday also means it’s the day to finish Awana for the week. If you’re not incorporating it into your homeschool curriculum, you’re missing out! Bible memory work yes —- but also see it as writing practice, reading skills, comprehension, memory practice, planning... so much more. It totally counts as school if you just change how you look at it.
