Reclaiming Wonders
A book titled 'Shooting Kabul' by N.H. Senzai is being held in front of a scenic backdrop, likely a photograph on the book's cover. The cover features a stylized illustration of a Middle Eastern city with snow-capped mountains in the background and various smaller images depicting elements of Afghan culture and the story's plot. The book appears to be a work of fiction focused on a family's experiences escaping Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and their challenges in starting a new life in America after the events of 9/11. The image also shows a person's hand holding the book, suggesting it is being read or carried by someone.

Reading 'Shooting Kabul' - Afghan Family's Escape Story

With less than a month to go until our summer travels, today was a day for car maintenance - made better with a book shoved in my bag. I’m trying to be more intentional in carrying a book, so I don’t get sucked into the world of time wasting.... Yet, ironically, here I am on IG 😂 . . Pre-reading isn’t done very often around here. But I figured if it’s about 9/11 and Afghanistan, we both need to read it. When I’m done, it’s being passed to my 13 year old. My goal is to raise her to know more about different cultures than me! Current focus: Middle East. . . This fiction middle grade book recounts a family’s escape from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, and their difficulties as they make a new life in America. It’s a great insight into their culture especially once September 11th happens. This is a great story for kids to learn not only about the history and culture, but also how it feels to be unfairly treated due to people’s prejudices. . . It’s based on the author’s husband’s own escape in his childhood. Highly recommended! . . The author also has books set in India and Syria. Those will be on my list too! Hit me with more suggestions for my Middle East book exploring!
