Mount Vernon: More Than Just a Mansion
Planning your family trip to Washington, DC for fall break? Let’s go to Mount Vernon.🇺🇸🍁🏛️
👉👉{Save this for your DC vacation!}
Just outside of DC is President Washington’s house. It’s on every one’s DC itinerary.
❓But why is no one talking about the museum?
Yes…
🐪Listen to the audio-tour as you wander the grounds. (Camel? Yup!)
🏠Visit the mansion and his garden and the slave quarters.
🪦See the view across the Potomac and remember him at his grave.
📜You can even do the National Treasure tour in the basement. (We didn’t)
But the Mount Vernon museum and education center are top notch! This was really one of the best DC museums we visited.
With interactive experiences and a 4D Revolutionary War theater, this isn’t just a boring museum. Full-sized figurines tell of George Washington’s life with so much American history mixed in.
We had to skip over a lot of it just for time, and I had to drag my oldest along as she wanted to soak it all in.
❗️Now if someone (like me!) had told me that this visit would be at least a half-day trip, I would have been better prepared.
‼️Bonus tip: We planned Mount Vernon for the last day of our DC Trip. This saved us a pretty complicated train/ bus trip, and we spent the night outside of DC to save some money and get us started on the drive back to Georgia.
