Motivating Kids to Learn Foreign Languages
More proof that Mom is stupid…. And strangers are right.
Just ask the kids. 😉🎤🇭🇳🇨🇷
Spanish was my minor.
I studied abroad in Mexico. I’ve been on lots of Spanish-speaking mission trips. I had tons of Hispanic patients at the clinic. But the kids had no interest.
Mom needs to quit trying to teach us.
Until…
Kid #1 -
✈️She went with me to Honduras in 9th grade where she saw the need.
🏡At home, she the connections to Latin and saw the benefit of DuoLingo.
🇭🇳We went back to Honduras, and she spoke it. Not perfectly. But more than most on our team. And she’s still going!
(I’m thinking CLEP test in the future.)
Kid #2
🛑He had no interest in languages despite Latin for homeschool.
🦥In Costa Rica, our jungle guide told him that he was learning many languages without excuse. How? With DuoLingo.
🏡My kid started this language program the minute we got off the plane. And has been doing Spanish ever since.
And now we’re abusing that year long family plan all over @duolingo
Me - Italian, Spanish, and a bit of Czech
Husband - French
Kid 3 and 4 - French and now some Spanish
Cool families…
😎Fight over phone usage to do their language.
😎Sync up their competition with Dad.
😎And have siblings do a lesson for them if they’re away from home.
DuoLingo ain’t paying me nuthin.
All the more reason you should add foreign languages to your homeschool or after public school or after work lives.
👉Speaking their own language makes travel all that more special!
You gotta show kids different cultures.
Start east with language.
All you have to do is say “yes” and let them have at it!
👉Share this in your stories! We all have that friend who needs the push.
