Reclaiming Wonders
A young boy, around 5 years old, wearing a bright blue hooded dinosaur costume, is standing in what appears to be a store or exhibit space. He is holding a wooden sign that reads 'LET THE WORLD HEAR YOU ROAR!' in bold black lettering with a green dinosaur illustration. The background is filled with dinosaur-themed decorations, including cardboard cutouts of dinosaurs, wooden signs with 'RAWR!' written on them, and plush dinosaur toys. The boy has a cheerful and confident expression on his face, embodying the spirit of the dinosaur theme.

Little Boy's Dinosaur-Themed Confidence

When I came into the ChickFilA bathroom today, a lady was just watching him. Never a good sign. But she was grinning. He had pulled out the step stool, washed and dried his hands, gotten himself mouthwash from the dispenser, and was currently swishing at the sink. She was amazed. . . Later, he declared he was going to run a lap. I thought meant around small sidewalk circle... not the entire choir building! We had a “discussion” afterward ;) . He is roaring... Making it loud and clear that, although the fourth, he is no baby. He’s Mr. Independent. . . And I have to keep reminding him that just because he CAN, it doesn’t mean he should. Or that all the other customers want a five year old filling up his drink on his own from the Coke machine. Or walking himself across the parking lot. Or... . . Yesterday, I told him to get his clean clothes out of the basket. He pulled them out and folded them. I told him to take them upstairs and off he went. . . We’ve been intentionally giving chores and pushing the kids to be more independent and take care of themselves and be responsible. I did this. . . But sometimes, it sure would be nice if they weren’t quite so independent and confident. Sometimes it can bite you in the butt. ;) . And this would be the theme of the bedroom he’s said he’s going to have. And took all his Star Wars pictures off his walls ;) Birthday present coming up!
