Learning History at Stones River Battlefield
Our first #nationalpark stop of the trip was in #murfreesborotn at #stonesrivernationalbattlefield to restart some #jrrangerbadge earning. And the grumbling started even though I know they like getting them... Why do they have to be such... kids? ;) The 11 year old acted her very much 11 yr old self until I told her she had the option of writing me a two page paper instead.. but then we got through it. Granted, she said it was hard to do because I have had a whole life to know what they’re taking about and that she is confused. Oh, if only she could comprehend that I’m #redeemingmyeducation right alongside her. I seriously had to go back to the display serval times to remember blue vs gray. No US history class since high school and all... Our ranger talk really stressed the important of the battlefield with its strategic fight to secure Lincoln’s victory which helped him push through the Emancipation Proclamation the following day. Second bloodiest battle but never talked about. I’m am embarrassingly ignorant of my own country’s history. Hopefully these kids won’t be. Said grumpy kid was at least was able to tell Ranger that Lincoln was the 16th president... that must mean something.
