Kentucky's Hidden Gem: Red River Gorge

Kentucky has a secret! It’s a wondrous place of hiking and arches and natural bridges and endless rock formations and hundreds of miles of hiking trails for your little climbers. The Red River Gorge is truly is a beautiful place… So don’t tell travelers about it and let it get crowded 🤫 Need to know: 👉It’s free!! 👉You can’t do it all. Pick a small portion and focus there. 👉Print or download a map and bring it. You’re in the middle of nowhere. 👉Don’t plan to stay late. One lane roads up on hills will keep you from wanting to drive in the dark. 👉Plan to retrace your drive. We came out the way we came in because we didn’t have time to continue the loop. 👉Do lots of research on your trails if you have littles. There were tons of steep drop offs! I should have allotted for days to explore instead of a day trip during our Creation Museum family trip. We managed to squeeze in a few short trails only - Angels Window Trail and Whistling Arch Trail - before we had to retrace our drive back. Even if you only have a few hours to spend, these two shorter hikes will make the family adventure worthwhile. Honestly, I do think it’s lovelier than the Smokies. So much to explore and fewer crowds. ❤️Save this for your Kentucky road trip. But don’t go. Let me enjoy its quiet next time 😉 Tell me if I’m the first time you’ve ever heard of it. It’s what I’m here for 🙋 📸Red River Gorge; November 2021 Follow me @reclaimingwonders family adventures and our learning life. ❤️
