Homeschooling Book Clutter
Stop. Don’t buy it. Wait.
.
I did not do this my first several years of homeschooling. And now, I have so much stuff and wasted money that it’s sickening. Then, it’s hard to get rid of books because when I look at them I get annoyed because of the waste. And the guilt.
.
When we first start educating our kids, we see so many good and beautiful and tempting and everyone says what they use is the best so surely I need that instead. And then the book sales because I might one day need a book about Mayans and it’s on clearance. Or “my kid will use that in three years and it’s on sale so I should get it now.” 📚
.
Or the dreaded, sure I’ll take your free hand-me-down.
.
I’m thankful for the gifts and the ability to buy what we need. Don’t get me wrong. Mostly, however, I wish I had never brought most of this stuff in our house. Mostly I wish someone had told me to wait eight years ago. Even if it’s just two dollars, I have a lot of “money saving” sitting on shelves that we have never touched and never will.
.
Those pictures of beautiful book shelves get me too. So peaceful. But… So much clutter. I can’t do it.
.
All you need is minimal. Library card. Games. A few excellent core books. And time.
.
Now, I’m off to add more wasted money to these piles of boxes… Garage sale coming soon 📦
