Reclaiming Wonders

History Buffs at the Aviation Museum

“This museum is intoxicating” - said my 13 year old history nerd. As in, “You won’t let me go slow enough to read everything I want to and it’s so full of history” 🤓 . . Seeing atomic bombs in person, just makes it so much real... living history. The kids might have rushed through reading and not understood much of what we passed, but some things stuck. . . We saw a (disabled) bomb and the plane that carried it. Discussed its destruction and how they were stored in Macon... Then, at the other hangar, we discussed World War 2 in front of the map of the Pacific battle sites, looked at pictures of the bombs and the destruction of Nagasaki, and the “should we have” questions. . . More than three hours of walking around airplanes. If that’s all they took from it, I consider it a good outing. Keepin’ the expectations real. . . I have a love-hate museum with the Museum of Aviation in Macon. It’s free. It’s huge. It has tons of stuff and great history. But, it has so many words that no one would ever stop to read. And I need a primer to explain the basics to me. That same 13 year old said her brain was done... She too was over stimulated. . . This mom learned today and has lots more to look up. A mom field trip that just happened to have kids along 😄
