Heartfelt Gift from Long-Term Patient

Now that patients know I’m leaving, some of them are squeezing in extra clinic appointments and bringing me gifts ;). At my indigent county clinic, gifts are far between which makes them even more appreciated. This patient has been mine for 8 years or so... and why I love family practice. I don’t want a one time quick visit. I want a relationship. Which makes it all the more difficult to convince them now that they will survive without me and that I am not worth pushing them into panic attacks! And did you notice I’ve been promoted? My patients don’t care about my title... I’m their “doctor” and, no matter how many times I correct them, they don’t care. They trust me... often way more than they should... listen to your specialist! Working at this type of clinic has been more of an education than medical school would have ever been! I do love my job and my patients... praying for the next job when I have one. Not sure I can do private practice... being needed outweighs all the bad...
