Family Adventure at High Falls State Park

Confession... I skipped the new church search for a Mother’s Day adventure to find a waterfall. #highfallsstatepark is 45 minutes away and didn’t disappoint. We headed downstream to watch the natural waterfalls, but next time will head upstream back to the ruins of the hydroelectric station circa 1900 (as seen in Catching Fire!). Big giant rocks to climb and adventure off the trail were a big hit for the kids. Some caterpillars, toads, birds, and a den of snakes in the waterfall brought some excitement. We were told it was a red rat snake... next to something venomous that we couldn’t see very well ;). That and all the signs were enough to deter us from wading and swimming... and a good life lesson about how we follow rules even when other people don’t. Sure looked refreshing though! Poison ivy everywhere and eyes on the alert. And a constant search for ticks... grr. So many places to explore... and a new state parks pass to use. It’s official.
