Reclaiming Wonders
The image consists of three separate photographs depicting a grassy hill or mound with trees in the background. In the top two photographs, a young girl with long blonde hair, wearing a red and blue jacket, is seen walking along a dirt path leading up the hill in one, and lying down on the grassy slope in the other. The third photograph shows a wider view of the mound, with several people standing or walking on the grassy surface, giving a sense of scale to the large size of the mound. The mound appears to be a historical or archaeological site, possibly a Native American mound or earthwork. The clear blue sky and lush greenery suggest a pleasant outdoor setting.

Exploring the Emerald Mound

First stop in our Natchez Trace experience was Emerald Mound. 600+ years old, second largest in the country, this place was impressive. Huge. It was hard to really comprehend its size. Amazing to me that these mound builders are all over this area and yet, I don't remember learning about them until several months ago. Forget just tepees and huts... My seven year old gets to learn all this at seven! We'll discuss it in class again in several months and they'll have real life experience.
