Exploring the British Library's Treasures
The British Library was right next to King’s Cross and has free bag storage... and I took a few pictures before I was told not to... There should have been more signs!
It has a copy of every book ever printed in Britain. We just went to the exhibition. Where else can you see the Magna Carta, Shakespeare’s first folio, original composition manuscripts by Beethoven and Mozart, and more?
The kids enjoyed the electronic copies of da Vinci’s diaries and an ancient Chinese scroll. The Gutenberg Bible was interesting, and I didn’t realize they then took the black text and drew around it to embellish it. And there were maps from Columbus’ day showing what they thought the world looked like then. Neat free stuff, but perhaps there’s a reason there were no other kids there. Coop was bored... “You’re making me look at books?” ;)
