Reclaiming Wonders
A child wearing a green hooded sweatshirt and gray pants is lying on the ground, with their legs and arms outstretched. The ground is a dry, cracked mud surface, suggesting a desert or arid environment. The child appears to be examining or exploring the patterns and textures of the mud, possibly looking for animal tracks or other signs of wildlife activity. The scene conveys a sense of curiosity, adventure, and hands-on learning about nature.

Exploring Nature's Footprints

Once a month, the big kids go to #charlielliottwildlifecenter for homeschool day with some of their school friends. This last time, they focused on bird sounds, animal dropping, and footprints among other things. My favorite part? The thirty minute narration the whole way home as they reiterate everything they did, cementing it in their heads even more. And proving to me that they not only paid attention but learned stuff that is exciting to them. And when the next day’s nature adventure includes mud and animal prints... they bring it all out again. “Hey! I know how we know if they’re raccoon prints! Look for oyster shells. They wash their food in this water!”
