Everyone’s favorite President is up next for President Week - my self-declared Celebration ;) It’s time for another family road trip! 🎩❤️🇺🇸 (Save this to plan your history trip.) Before meeting President Lincoln at @GettysburgNPS or in DC at the Lincoln Monument and his tragic ending at @FordsTheater …. Our roadschooling taught us about the childhood of our 16th president in rural Kentucky and Illinois. (📸July 2021) These two US history spots are only two hours apart for your southern family trip through the Midwest and both near Louisville, Kentucky. LINCOLN BIRTHPLACE National Historic Site - central Kentucky 1️⃣Read about this first Lincoln Memorial. It’s impressive! 💦See the spring where the Lincoln’s gathered water. 🏡Visit the Symbolic Cabin of his birth - (Oops! Originally thought to be the original, it was later realized to be time-appropriate but not the actual one.) 🌳Hike a trail within the park while finishing up your Junior Ranger packet. @lincolnbirthplacenps LINCOLN BOYHOOD National Memorial - south Indiana 🚙Learn how the family moved here when young Abe was 7 years old. 🐓Walk out to the historical farm to learn about young Abe’s childhood farm chores and life. (rebuilt) 🏠See the location of the original Lincoln family cabin. 😢Visit the family cemetery including that of young Abe’s mother who died when he was 9. 📝Explore the small museum with your Junior Ranger packet. @lincolnboyhoodnps And for a later road trip?
