Exploring Fort Caroline's History

#fortcaroline today in #jacksonvilleflorida made me realize how little I know I know about my country. This settlement of French Hugenots (aka Protestants rubbing from persecution) was settled 50 years before Plymouth... yet we never hear about it. And then the Spanish came up from St. Augustine and ran them off and massacre occurred.... the rest is history. These kids are #juniorranger pros and jumped right in. The key I hope they take? Native Americans helped the French even build their settlement, and then we weren’t nice... even the video we watched talk about how grateful we should be about our freedoms we have now. Off to see the other side of the story tomorrow!
