Rediscovering Rock Climbing and Community
There are few things more important than community amiright?
Last October, I tried rock climbing for the first time since I was 14 (thank u @treehuggermads!!) - a 20 year gap because I was terrified of heights. In November, I took a trip to Moab and tried canyoneering. Figured if I could rapel off a 300 foot rock, climbing 40ft walls inside was literally no big deal lol
The first pic is when I stopped renting shoes and got my own :))
I love climbing. I love feeling my body get stronger and working hard to get better and do something my body couldn’t do the day before.
But the best part is the community. The way you can chat with someone very lightly or have deep convos. How you can connect with your surroundings outside, while cheering them on and celebrating huge wins - because climbing is as mental as it is physical.
Climbing is one of of many communities I feel very connected to in my lil town of Fort Collins and the Front Range as a whole.
I’ve found the surest way to have hope, happiness, and faith in humanity is through community. Find your people and give them lots of love. I don't blame you if your faith in humanity isn’t strong right now. I highly encourage everyone to spend some time with people or groups that make them feel welcome, seen, and loved. There’s as much of that in the world as there are the… other kinds of groups
Stick together friends, it’s not over til its over
