Pro Tips for Colorado Summer Hiking

šŸ‘‡šŸ¼Pro tips for having a great summer hike in Colorado! šŸ„¾ footwear: I canā€™t tell you the amount of times Iā€™ve seen people in sneakers on trails that would be much safer with hiking shoes/boots. Iā€™ve found myself in the @hoka Kaha 2 and Anacapa low tops this year the most šŸ’¦ snacks and water: Bring more than you think youā€™ll need! I never leave for a hike without at least 2 L of water. šŸ‘š layers: I kid you not, I have almost every layer imaginable in my pack. If Iā€™m wearing pants, I pack shorts and visa versa. I always have on a sports bra or bra top, short sleeve, light long sleeve, micro fleece and a rain jacket in my pack. Depending on the weather or higher altitudes (above 12,000ft) Iā€™ll bring a puffy jacket too šŸ‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Training: This one is controversial but.. just get out there. All the talk about being in great shape before you go hiking is possibly ideal depending on the amount of time and resources you have to train, but please donā€™t let the fear of not being in good-enough shape keep you from starting! You can turn around at any time if you get too tired and thatā€™s ok!! Actually, thatā€™s admirable šŸ‘Æā€ā™€ļø company: Iā€™ve found that good company - whether thatā€™s inside my own mind, with friends, dogs or my significant other, makes the difficulty of the trail seem way way easier. Trail convos are some of the best ever, so hike with people you want to get to know or enjoy & the hike will go by with so much more ease! ā˜€ļø oh and donā€™t forget to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours friends! Less oxygen in the air makes the sun shine through stronger than at lower elevations What would you add to the list of tips for a great summer hike?! šŸ“ø : 1&3 @dashaslens . .
