Pro Tips for Colorado Summer Hiking
šš¼Pro tips for having a great summer hike in Colorado!
š„¾ footwear: I canāt tell you the amount of times Iāve seen people in sneakers on trails that would be much safer with hiking shoes/boots. Iāve found myself in the @hoka Kaha 2 and Anacapa low tops this year the most
š¦ snacks and water: Bring more than you think youāll need! I never leave for a hike without at least 2 L of water.
š layers: I kid you not, I have almost every layer imaginable in my pack. If Iām wearing pants, I pack shorts and visa versa. I always have on a sports bra or bra top, short sleeve, light long sleeve, micro fleece and a rain jacket in my pack. Depending on the weather or higher altitudes (above 12,000ft) Iāll bring a puffy jacket too
šš¼āāļø Training: This one is controversial but.. just get out there. All the talk about being in great shape before you go hiking is possibly ideal depending on the amount of time and resources you have to train, but please donāt let the fear of not being in good-enough shape keep you from starting! You can turn around at any time if you get too tired and thatās ok!! Actually, thatās admirable
šÆāāļø company: Iāve found that good company - whether thatās inside my own mind, with friends, dogs or my significant other, makes the difficulty of the trail seem way way easier. Trail convos are some of the best ever, so hike with people you want to get to know or enjoy & the hike will go by with so much more ease!
āļø oh and donāt forget to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours friends! Less oxygen in the air makes the sun shine through stronger than at lower elevations
