Jumping in the Freezing Lake
Got my 🍑 up to the top of this bucket list hike & jumped right in the freezing lake!
*ok not right in, I actually needed a ton of encouragement*
See, I used to be the type to be motivated to put myself in painful situations at all cost. I knew this lake jump would be fun at the end of it, so I jumped in.
BUT (hot take incoming) I see a lot of content, mainly on social media and podcasts these days about doing hard things & this has been massively taken out of context. When this phrase was first made popular, it was about *emotional vulnerability* NOT pushing our bodies and minds to the absolute limit
As @the.holistic.psychologist says:
“Discipline can become a form of self abuse. Constantly pushing yourself. Shaming yourself. Only rewarding yourself when you’ve accomplished something sound a lot like continuing an abusive childhood.
Time to play, skip a day and accomplish absolutely nothing matters.”
So take a day off, do things that scare you but to an *extent* Give yourself a break. Listen to & respect your what your body is telling you. Jump in the damn lake (or not, if you don’t want to!)
Let me know if you agree/disagree!
