Why Follower Count Doesn't Matter for Business Success

It’s so easy to get in the trap of chasing followers, views, likes and comments. People ask me all the time how to grow their Instagram and ultimately those things don’t really matter. I know it may sound a little counterintuitive at first but let me explain. -
Let’s say you’re starting a candle business and you want to promote it on socials. What metrics actually matter? Does it matter how many followers or views you get? No! All that matters is sales! You could get a million views and no sales, or you could get a thousand views and 100 sales. What’s the difference? -
Targeted content. The key to success on socials is creating content and messaging specific to your customer. What do they want to see? Not what’s gonna go viral or get the most engagement, but what’s gonna actually help them out. Sometimes that may go viral, but often times it won’t. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, it just means that it has a very specific person it’s talking to. -
On our live the other day, @watchwyattwander and I talked about how follower numbers and chasing clout discourages and distracts so many (including both of us from time to time) it’s a never ending game that will leave you unsatisfied and discouraged. The truth is, you don’t need those things to be successful. Do they help? Yeah sometimes but dreams are made by providing value. The more value you provide, the more people will be attracted to you and that’s how you build a lasting brand. -
