Survivor's Resilience and Generosity After Devastating Wildfire
He definitely didn’t expect this 👇
A few weeks ago we had the absolute pleasure of meeting Patrick. Patrick survived the Lahaina fire by jumping in the ocean and floating on a boogie board for over 7 terrifying hours while worrying about sharks, smoke and burning embers flying from the town into the ocean.
After being rescued by the coast guard he was on the missing person list for 6 weeks as he wondered to the other side of the island due to extreme trauma.
He has been living in a hotel because he lost all his possessions in the fire and the day we met him FEMA asked him what he would do if they kicked him out. He has lost 30 pounds in the last few months due to a throat condition he contracted by breathing in so much smoke that prevents him from being able to swallow solid foods.
He then found a wallet with $900 on the ground and returned it to its owner and even declined a tip.
With no home, job, possessions, and access to medical care he still chose to do the right thing. We were able to give him the $900 plus an extra $100 to make his day!
@abby_hawaii and I also set up a GoFundMe through Abby’s non profit @voyage_ministries for him to help get the medical care he needs. If you would like to help Patrick even more I encourage you to visit @voyage_ministries profile link and you’ll find the GoFundMe there!
