Relate Through Vulnerability
You may impress people with your strengths but you connect through your weaknesses.
In a social media age, people are obsessed with followers, and as a result the temptation is always to flex. Even if you haven’t made it, the temptation to fake it till you make it is stronger than ever. Not only does this cause a lot of stress and anxiety, but also leads to crippling debt that much of society experiences.
Furthermore, real connection happens through struggle and relatability. The more vulnerable you are the more people will want to relate to you and see themselves in your story. I’ve been told many times that people are inspired by my story and even take action in their own life, not because I just post cool vacation photos, but because I’m also honest about where I started from. There was a point where I was sleeping on the floor of a church with about $300 to my name and no clue what I was gonna do. But thankfully, by the grace of God and some awesome friends, I was able to slowly get to where I am now.
So if you relate to where I was, don’t be embarrassed, it’s just a stage. Don’t spend a bunch of money on things to try to fake your way to the top. It doesn’t work and will just leave you anxious. If you want to build a real following, take people on the journey with you. Document your progress and show them how you are making it work despite the struggles. People love come-up stories and will be far more engaged through this process than flexing a new car or something will ever do. Relate before you impress!
Be blessed and stay stoked 😎🤙
