I have to be honest. If you don’t learn how to dial in your sales process as a creator, you’re gonna be stuck with a bunch of expensive gear that you use as a hobby while you go work a job you wish you didn’t have. It might happen in 6 months, a year, 2 years, but eventually you will realize that it’s extremely difficult to live life off of a shoestring budget and you’re gonna get tired of it. I don’t know about you but I got into this industry because I love it and I want to be in it for the long haul (not just a gap year). So there’s this concept called skill stacking. Basically it says that as you progress in your career, you’ll begin stacking on more and more valuable skills that allow you to charge more for your work. Inversely, if you don’t have the skill stack, you will be stuck charging very little for your work because you fall to the level of your lowest skill. I’ll give you an example of myself: 1. I went to film school to learn how to shoot. I honed in the creative skill set which on its own is a little valuable and I started getting low paid jobs. 2. I started learning marketing and social media management which allowed me to charge a little more 3. I learned sales and how to package my service into an irresistible offer that clients said yes to regardless of price. 4. I learned how to get clients the results THEY needed and not just create pretty pictures. 5. I learned the power of branding and how to set myself apart from the competition which allowed me to compete in a league of my own. 6. I learned how to implement systems and teams to build leverage and buy back my time. As you can see, each skill builds on the last and allows you to progress further. A creative with all 5 skills can charge waaaayyyy more than the one with only the first 1-2 skills. If you find you don’t have the higher level skills on this stack, you have to learn them to progress and survive in this industry. If you want to learn what that looks like DM me CREATE and I’ll help you build in the right direction!
