Summit Triumph on Mount Baker
“I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
'Til the landslide brought me down” - Fleetwood Mac
Last weekend I summited Mount Baker/ Kulshan, my first technical summit and I can’t stop smiling since.
✔️ 1st technical summit
🌋 10,781 ft (3,286 m) active glacier-covered stratovolcano
⛰ 🥾 3rd highest mountain in Washington State
🦶 Challenges overcome: a sprained ankle and 4 stitches removed 2 days prior
💫 Highlights: quality time with @pastrypants. Made awesome new friends. Sustained no new injuries (which is big for this month lol), extended my physical limits, Camped in a gorgeous location, witnessed the grandeur of crevasses and glaciers up close and personal, Enjoyed a thanksgiving feast and other incredible meals mountainside and conquered something I didnt think was possible for me.
I didn't grow up with any of this or being influenced by people who do anything outside. This is all brand spanking new to me. I’m in my 30’s and learning some new outdoor hobby or skill almost weekly. It’s never too late to start. If you’re curious at all about anything and whether or not you can do it, try. Just try. You’ll be amazed at what your body is capable of and all that you’re capable of learning. Life expands or shrinks based on our ability to have the courage to live outside of our comfort zones. The view is much better on the other side once you get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Already can’t wait for the next one (and am still working on healing this ankle).
