Exploring Mexico's West Coast

Have been in Baja since 1/22 and plan to be in Mexico until late April, exploring slowly and deeply. In just a little over a week it has felt like a dream. We’ve seen grey whales and their week old calf’s by the dozens, 2 humpback whales, a pod of over 100 dolphins jumping joyfully better than anything some are trained to show at sea world. We’ve been feasting on fish tacos Camilo caught himself. Have met wonderful people at almost every beach we’ve stayed at. Have visited and stayed at 10 beaches, all with their own beauty, uniqueness and allure. We rode horses along the coast for hours in the morning light. Paddled out to remote islands and snorkeled leisurely taking in the aquarium of the world. Each day as we slowly head further south, the journey gets more beautiful and mystical. It’s felt like the best time. Having lived in 5 states along the west coast and DEEPLY explored the entire west for decades from Alaska down to Nicaragua, I’m overjoyed to have the chance to explore this missing section on “my map” of western North America to deep dive into the country half my heritage is from, retrace my roots, and grow to know Mexico intimately. The west is the last of the wild places and it’s for the people who refuse to be tamed and pacified. I can feel Mexico rewilding me.
