Embracing New Mountain Adventures

A year ago today, I bought my first ice axe at REI and attempted a summit that intimidated me in preparation for Mt Baker. I had to you-tube how to use it. Neophyte at silly things like how to carry it on my pack without ripping all my gear and how to hold it. Fast forward a year later, investments in guided summit courses, reading, and going to the mountains as often as I could, and I’m now attempting Mt Rainier over 4th of July weekend with a rad girl crew, non-commercial. Training for it now. I’m 35 and taking up new hobbies, skills, and physical challenges every day. Always learning. Often a beginner and 100% ok being one. I’m just getting started with so many things I hope to be doing well into the fall and winter of my lifetime, and enjoying this season of summer in such a way I know that when I look back, I’ll be proud I started. There’s no time like the present to become the person you’ve always wanted to be. The metaphor of the mountain applies to all areas of life. Start now. Buy the ax. Learn as you go. Climb. Invest your energy in it. Enjoy the view. Repeat 🤙
