Embracing Life's Adventures: From Career to Travel Awakening
There are many new faces around here, WELCOME. Thanks for riding along this journey & sharing in this community of adventurers, meaning-yearners, & travelers.
I’m Kym 👋. In late 2019 I left my 20 year career in the luxury travel industry to do what a lot of us here dream of… TRAVEL.
I quit my office job that had grown toxic, let go of my apartment, had a friend watch my 🐱, sold & donated most of my belongings, & booked a one way ticket to Central America in Jan 2020 for what was meant to be “the most epic year adventure around the 🌎 .”
As you know, 2020 turned out to be a total 💩show. After 3 months having the best time of my life, I had to come home. The embassy declared if we did not board the last ✈️ available, there would be no assistance from our gov & I should plan to stay in Nicaragua, INDEFINITELY.
Getting to Nica in the 1st place was a JOURNEY. I was in El Salvador when the country announced borders would be closing in 48 hrs. We were to leave or plan to be locked in for 3 weeks. As all travel canceled, I befriended a fellow backpacker & asked to hitch a ride from El Salvador to Nicaragua on the BACK OF A 🏍, as each country closed their borders & locked everyone within who did not heed the exit plans.
Since, I’ve been living on a yacht in Seattle, with my boyfriend & our 27 toed 😺. Instead of quitting, I rose. I delved into everything that scares the shit out of me. I’ve rafted 21 days down the Colorado River. Climbed. Mountaineered. Backpacked. Camped 75% of the year, hiked my ass off, feasted my ass on, & have come out the other end a different human.
Experiences & encounters with this 🌍 breathe life into you. They crack you open wide. Heal your ♥️ . Ground you. Evolve your “self” into forms you find unfathomable. It takes the guts to step out of your comfort zone. To leave the bits behind that hold you back & keep you “safe.” To hold the belief in yourself that following your ❤️ will lead you to connectedness with EVERYTHING in this one life we get to live. The past couple years I haven’t been able to go far, but the width… I could write a 📖 about.
I’m happy you’re here & I cant wait to share this adventure we call life.
