A lone hiker is traversing through a breathtakingly narrow slot canyon, surrounded by towering walls of vibrant orange and red sandstone rock formations. The canyon floor is covered by a shallow stream of crystal-clear water, reflecting the sunlight that pierces through the narrow opening above. The hiker, donning a blue jacket and carrying a backpack, is carefully navigating the rocky terrain, immersed in the awe-inspiring natural beauty of this geological wonder. The image captures the serene and adventurous spirit of canyoneering, offering a glimpse into the hidden gems that can be discovered by those willing to venture off the beaten path.

Canyoneering Adventure in Zion

This summer and fall, many of the iconic locations within Zion have been closed due to a toxic Cyanobacteria algae bloom found within the water sources. This is a throwback to last year and my discovery that the best way to find seemingly untouched beautiful slot canyons and scenery was to canyoneer and rappel to them. This was my first canyoneering trip ever with the longest rap being 25 ft (which was terrifying, then). Now I’m up to 310 (it’s still terrifying but fun now). Expanding your comfort zone is and feels life changing and can be done at any age.
