10 Ways to Protect Our Oceans
Today is World Oceans Day! Here are 10 lifestyle choices you can make to help protect our world’s oceans🐠🐟🌊🐙🦀:
1. Use plastic free alternatives & products made from ♻️ plastic materials
🌎 Here are some brands that use recycled plastic in their products/ eliminate use of plastic to help reduce our impact on the environment while providing travel, lifestyle, and adventure solutions. I am proud to partner with each of the following over the last few years, check out these rad brands: @somiapparel @apricoat_official @coalatree @keepyourcadence @kindlaundry @stio @selkbag @bite
😭 fact: by 2050 it is estimated there will be more plastic in the ocean than 🐠. Try to use your $$ to support brands with sustainable missions
2. Reduce your carbon footprint:
🌎 You can achieve this by trying to live near where you work and walking or biking there. Turning off the lights when you leave a room. Putting on a sweater or blanket instead of hitting the thermostat, carpooling, etc.
🌎 A brand doing something really cool by pulling carbon from the atmosphere and turning it into wearable beads, each representing 1 month’s extracted emissions is @viablybracelet. Proud partner, I wear mine every day as a reminder to care for the planet. My emissions are offset through July at the moment.
3. Avoid ocean harming products - choose products like @kindlaundry and eco safe sunblock. In this pic I’m wearing a sun-safe shirt and leggings to avoid using sunscreen and protect the waters, reef, and marine life from toxic chemicals.
4. Eat sustainable seafood (I’m personally cutting out 🐙 & 🦈forever)
5. Vote on ocean issues
6. Contact your representatives and lawmakers
7. Explore the oceans safely so you can learn to love them and wish to protect them
8. Leave no trace
9. Practice Safe Boating ⚓️⛵️🛥. I MUCH prefer sailing and SUP, kayaking, rafting, & surfing to motor boating because it’s wind/human powered and requires little to no gas to enjoy time on the water
10. Fish responsibly 🎣
Bonus points: do regular cleanups just because and recycle as part of your habits so we can all enjoy beautiful tomorrows for generations to come.
