These are llamas. Tied up outside a small food store/cafe stop on the road from Cafayate to Salta in Argentina.
••
If you’ve been following my stories, you know I have developed a slight obsession with llamas. So here’s their deal:
••
Llamas have been used as pack animals in the Andes since at least Incan times. They carry goods for transportation, provide wool for clothes to keep local populations warm in the cold mountain nights and winters, and provide food as well.
••
Llamas are domesticated and do work for humans but only up to a certain point. If you overload a llama, it will refuse to move. It will lie down, spit, kick, and even hiss at people trying to make it carry more than it’s comfortable load weight.
••
In other words, these llamas will not take your shit. And that makes me love them all the more. That is all.
